There’s a strong possibility that the 2024 BMW M2 will be the final iteration of its kind โ a compact, rear-wheel-drive BMW coupe equipped with a manual gearbox. Given this potential finality, many owners are opting for subtle modifications. In response to this demand for understated changes, Maxton Design has introduced a discreet aero package (body kit) for the 2024 BMW M2, providing it with an OEM+ appearance.
Not everyone can afford a $100,000 BMW M3 with an additional $20,000 in modifications. Maxton, a European company, specializes in offering affordable parts for various turbocharged models, including Hyundai N models, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, and the Ford Focus ST. Their diffusers, priced at around $200, have gained popularity among car enthusiasts.
What about prices?
Considering the higher price tag of the new BMW M2, Maxton’s package reflects the elevated status. Some components, like the carbon fiber rear wing with an integrated LED bar, exude a touch of exoticism reminiscent of a GT3. This particular wing costs โฌ3,400.
Maxton’s demo car, the first G87 M2 fitted with their kit, features three carbon fiber parts: side skirts (โฌ1,099), front splitter (โฌ729), and the aforementioned spoiler.
For those seeking more budget-friendly options, a regular diffuser is available for just โฌ199, or a splitter for a similar price. These economical components come pre-finished in gloss black, eliminating the need for additional painting. Moreover, their installation doesn’t require drilling into the bodywork, preserving the M2’s resale value.
Noteworthy additions to the package include front bumper wings/canards, complementing the A45 AMG’s character โ a direct rival to the M2. A small spoiler for the rear window and aero roof rails contribute to the classic race car aesthetics.
The primary purpose of adding aero elements from Maxton body kit to the BMW M2 is to introduce a touch of downforce or, at the very least, reduce high-speed lift. While the diffuser and spoiler may have a modest impact without lowering the suspension, the substantial wing appears to be a serious component that can enhance traction for the M2.
Unlike its rivals such as the Mercedes CLA45 or Audi RS3, the M2 retains its rear-wheel-drive configuration, making it the most potent generation to date. Beneath the hood lies a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, producing 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The largest tire fitted by BMW is a 285/30 ZR20 at the rear. Naturally, this tuned example features custom wheels, seemingly larger than the stock ones.
